UCSF Dermatology Summer Research Award

The UCSF Department of Dermatology welcomes applications from medical students interested in doing an 8-week summer research fellowship with a faculty mentor in our department. The project may be a new or ongoing project in dermatology, and can be in any area of dermatology (basic science, epidemiology, population research, health policy, medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, dermatopathology, procedural dermatology, medical education, outcomes research, etc.). The research award amount is $3500. Funding may be utilized for housing, travel/ transportation, meeting registration, meeting travel, and research resources. An additional $1000 will be granted to non-UCSF medical students to cover the costs of travel to/from San Francisco. We strongly encourage students who are underrepresented in medicine (UIM)* # and students who do not have a dermatology department at their medical school to apply for this research award.

#A total of 2 research fellowships will be granted in 2018, with one fellowship reserved for a UIM student.



Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Research at UCSF Department of Dermatology

Call for Applications for Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Research at UCSF Department of Dermatology. The UCSF Department of Dermatology's Program for Clinical Research is thrilled to announce a 1-2 year post-doctoral clinical research fellowship beginning July 1, 2018.

The primary areas of interest include epidemiology, public health and investigator-initiated clinical trials. The post-doctoral fellow would join a dynamic research team that works on a wide range of topics: inflammatory skin diseases, hidradenitis supurativa, atopic dermatitis, geriatric dermatology, skin cancer, and the use of social media in medicine. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident 

- Must have an MD or PhD by June 30th 2018 

Research experience in study design and analysis and the use of statistical software programs is preferred. Applicants from groups traditionally underepresented in medicine (UIM) are encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, a 1- page letter summarizing their professional goals and research experience, and 3 reference letters by March 24, 2018 to the email listed in the announcement linked below.

  • [X] MS4 interviewing session: Current UCSF Derm residents share advice on interviews. (Note: this session was limited to students applying in the current cycle)


  • [X] Annual Meet and Greet with students, residents, and faculty members.


  • [X] The preclinical Introduction to Dermatology Elective begins in the Winter quarter.
